2024 RV Trip to
Saco, Maine

July 26th.... I traveled up to Ohio
from Florida with my RV and motorcycle to visit friends and
family and to do a little cycle riding while waiting for my wife
to fly up to Ohio to meet me in August.
After her
arrival we visited everyone for several days in Ohio before we took off in the RV and motored up to Maine.
We visited our friends in Saco, ME and did a little sightseeing
in the York Beach, NE area. Then we followed them up to
their lake house near Great Moose Lake, ME for a couple of days
of boating and R & R on the lake. Then it was the long
drive back to Lakeland, FL.

The plan was for
me to ride from Lakeland, FL over to Natchez, MS and then jump
on the Natchez Trace Parkway (444 miles) and ride the entire
length of it up to Nashville, TN. After the parkway ride I
headed up to Slade, KY for a layover and to attend a family
reunion (wife's family). After the
reunion I rode up to Ohio to visit friends & family.

Saco & Bangor Maine <Click

The plan for this
trip was for me to RV and trailer my motorcycle from Ohio over
to Maine to visit our friends in Saco, eat some lobster and
maybe do a little sightseeing. While at Saco a few days
before my wife flew up to meet me, I had the opportunity to
drive over to
Center Barnstead, NH to visit my old neighborhood friend
Fred Kneisley (from North St. in Greenfield, OH)
where we grew up. It was great catching up on old times, but we
didn't think to take any pictures during the visit :(
I
picked my wife up at the Portsmouth, NH airport from Florida.
For her return flight she departed from the Bangor, ME airport.
Her departure from the Bangor airport gave me the perfect
opportunity to do a couple of rides up in the northern part of
Maine before I headed back towards Ohio, with a stopover in Lock
Haven, PA. |

This stopover in Lock Haven PA was at the
Piper Aviation Museum, another Harvest Host location. The
surrounding area had some great motorcycling roads and the museum tour was
very interesting and informative. If you are a small plane
enthusiast, this is a super tour! |

After a couple of weeks visiting friends
and family in Ohio (and taking a
short bike ride up to Grand Lake St. Marys with a friend),
I motored down to Friendsville, TN (332
miles) for a few motorcycle
rides. This was another Harvest Host location and was
situated in an area that is perfect for touring the nearby
areas, such as Gatlinburg, Great Smokey Mountain National Park,
Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway, just to name a few.

My next and final stopover location with
motorcycle rides while in route to Florida is at another Harvest
Host location (again my Base Camp), this time in
northern Georgia. Lots of hills, curves and other tourist
stops are in this general area. The town of
Helen, GA has an annual
Oktoberfest that usually runs from the middle of September
to 1 November. But it looks like a fun town to visit
anytime of the year. I hope to visit there again when I
can spend more time wondering around.
